- No fragrances, dyes, or additives
It’s a polymer used in medical and cosmetic applications — chosen for its glide, safety, and clean performance. That’s how XLube stays effective, skin-friendly, and shelf-stable without needing a single additive.
How do I mix XLube?
Mixing is easy! For a perfect, clump-free batch, follow these steps:
- Choose Your Bottle: Use a clean, sealable bottle with room for shaking (a "squeeze bottle" or sports-style water bottle works perfectly).
- Add Water First: Fill the bottle with the desired amount of warm water. Warm water helps the powder dissolve more effectively.
- Sprinkle the Powder: Slowly sprinkle the XLube powder onto the surface of the water. Do not dump the powder in all at once, as this will cause clumping.
- Shake Vigorously: Seal the bottle and shake it vigorously for 20-30 seconds. At this stage suspended XLube powder particles (snow globe effect) is normal!
- Let It Rest: Lay the bottle horizontally and let it rest for about 10 minutes. During this time, the mixture will thicken into a smooth, slick gel.
- Final Shake: Give it one last shake, and it's ready to use! Ideally let it sit for up to an hour to fully hydrate.
Can I use tap water to mix XLube?
Yes — tap water works well in most cases.
If your water is clean and tastes fine, you can mix it straight in. But if it’s heavily chlorinated, very hard, or has a strong taste or smell, it might slightly affect the texture or clarity of the gel.
💡 Tip:
For more control, boil your water and let it cool before mixing. This reduces chlorine and ensures a cleaner mix — especially helpful if you're using it for sensitive areas.
Always add powder to water (not the other way around), and avoid hot water above 40 °C to protect the gel’s structure.
How much XLube gel can I get from a 100g bottle?
XLube is incredibly efficient. One 100 g bottle gives you more than 20 litres of smooth, long-lasting gel — depending on how you mix and how thick you like it.
💡 Pro tip: Mixing in a larger container (like a bucket) gives better results and less waste — more glide, less guesswork.
Is XLube vegan?
Yes — XLube is considered vegan.
It contains no animal-derived ingredients, and all safety testing has been done in vitro (on human skin and mucosa models), not on animals.
There’s no official “vegan certified” label — but based on its formulation, manufacturing, and testing process, XLube meets the expectations of most vegan users.
💡 In short: no animal ingredients, no animal testing, no compromise.
What is the osmosis of XLube?
We haven’t measured XLube’s exact osmolarity in lab terms — but it’s designed and tested to be tissue-friendly.
Here’s what we can say with confidence:
- XLube has been tested on reconstructed human skin and vaginal tissue models
- It was certified non-irritant and non-cytotoxic (ISO 10993-23 & 10993-5)
- These models are specifically used to detect issues often caused by hyperosmotic products — and XLube passed with no adverse effects
💡 In practice, that means XLube is gentle and non-damaging to sensitive tissue — even without an exact osmolarity number.
Can I add more powder once XLube has been mixed?
Yes — but do it carefully.
If your gel feels too thin, you can add a small amount of powder to thicken it. Here's how to do it right:
- Add only a thin layer of powder at a time
- Shake immediately after adding
- Lay the bottle horizontally and let it rest for 10–15 minutes
- Shake again and let it sit for another 30–60 minutes for full hydration
💡 Important: Always use clean hands and tools. If the bottle has already been in use for a while, it's better to mix a fresh batch to keep things hygienic.
What is the difference between XLube and other lube powders?
Unlike many over-the-counter lube powders, XLube contains no sugars, preservatives, fillers, or dispersing agents.
Some powder lubes use up to 75% sugar-based additives to accelerate mixing — which can lead to stickiness, staining, faster spoilage, and potential irritation. Others may rely on preservatives like parabens to extend shelf life.
XLube is different by design:
- No stickiness, no residue
- No staining on skin, fabric, or gear
- No preservatives — and no need for them
- Certified non-irritant and non-cytotoxic (ISO 10993)
- Completely neutral in taste and scent
It’s designed to be mixed fresh, used cleanly, and trusted fully. For those of you who are interested in how we became aware of these issue, here is a link to an abstract of a decisive study into over-the-counter lubricants inspiring the very creation of XLube: LubesDezzuttiAbstract
Is XLube compatible with condoms?
Yes — XLube is safe to use with latex, polyurethane, and polyisoprene condoms.
It contains no oils, fats, or harsh additives that would degrade or weaken condom materials. The gel forms a smooth, water-based layer that’s ideal for friction reduction and safe contact.
Just be sure to mix XLube with clean water and use as directed — and you’re good to go.
Is XLube safe to use with silicone toys?
Yes — XLube is fully compatible with silicone toys.
It’s a water-based gel made from a single, non-reactive polymer. It contains no oils, no silicone ingredients, and no additives that could damage or degrade silicone surfaces.
As always, make sure toys are clean before and after use, and mix XLube with clean water for best results.
My lube is clumpy. What did I do wrong?
Nothing - clumps usually happen when the powder is added bit too quickly or the water is too cold. But don’t worry — it’s an easy fix, and clumps will often dissolve naturally over time.
To get a smooth gel:
- Always add powder to water, never the other way around
- Don’t dump the powder in one big scoop — empty the red cap in a smooth, swift motion
- Use warm (not hot) water — around 30–40 °C is ideal
- Shake immediately, let it rest horizontally for 10 minutes, then shake again
💡 If clumps remain, just give it time. Over the next 30–60 minutes, they’ll dissolve on their own, forming a clear, even gel — no need to shake aggressively or heat the bottle.
How long does the unmixed powder last?
When stored properly, the powder has a shelf life of at least 3 years — often longer.
Because it contains no sugars, fats, or preservatives, there’s nothing in it that breaks down or spoils easily. Just make sure to:
- Keep the bottle sealed tightly
- Store it in a cool, dry place, away from moisture or steam
- Avoid getting water inside the bottle — even a few drops can start hydration
💡 Tip: The bottle is designed to be spill-resistant and travel-safe, so it stays fresh as long as you do.
How long does the mixed lube last?
We recommend mixing fresh for each use — that’s the cleanest and safest option.
However, XLube has been tested according to USP microbiological standards, and no bacterial growth was observed after 14 days. So if stored properly, a mixed batch can be used safely over that time.
To keep it fresh:
- Use a clean, sealed container
- Store it in a cool, dry place
- Always handle with clean hands or tools
💡 If it ever looks cloudy or smells off, discard and mix a new batch. When in doubt, mix fresh.
How can I tell if my mixed lube has gone bad?
XLube gel is usually smooth, clear, and stable — but like any water-based product, it can eventually degrade if left for too long or stored improperly.
Here’s what to look for:
- The gel becomes cloudy or opaque
- It starts to separate into water and residue
- It feels weaker or less cohesive than usual
- You can’t remember how long ago it was mixed — or how clean the container was
💡 Note: XLube is naturally stringy — that’s normal and part of what gives it such a long-lasting glide.
If anything feels off or you’re unsure, it’s always safest to rinse and remix. Fresh gel takes only minutes to prepare and ensures optimal feel and hygiene.
XLube is super slippery! What's the best way to clean it up?
It really is — and we take that as a compliment.
To clean up XLube effectively:
- Start with a dry cloth or paper towel to lift the excess gel
- Follow with warm water — no special soaps needed
- On surfaces or gear, mild soap works well for the final rinse
💡 Tip: XLube breaks down in the presence of chlorine, so a very diluted bleach solution can help clean water bottles or toys.
But use with caution: bleach can stain fabrics and corrode some materials — always rinse thoroughly and use only where appropriate.
The good news? XLube doesn’t stick, doesn’t stain, and leaves no film behind — just a clean glide and an easy cleanup.
Why never use a blender for mixing XLube?
Blenders introduce too much force and air, which can damage XLube’s structure and leave you with a foamy, watery mixture that won’t hydrate properly or hold its slip.
The result? A gel that’s thin, short-lived, or even falls apart.
💡 Best method:
- Add powder to warm water
- Shake gently by hand
- Let it rest horizontally
- Shake again after 10 minutes
- Let it sit for full hydration
Simple. Clean. Reliable. No blades needed.
